Journeyman is looking for a proven, confident, creative producer with a solid reputation for creating powerful works of visual storytelling for our content marketing partners.

We need a new member on our team who will settle in for the long term and help us grow toward our long term vision.

We intend to be one of the best content creation studios in Canada in the next 5-8 years. We’d like to grow into a much larger, multidisciplinary team that includes marketing and digital strategy, with studios in Ontario and Western Canada (where we have clients), and then beyond. We’re not there yet, but you can be part of the journey!

We have achieved a measure of influence in many of the important stories that affect our economy and communities: energy, health, oceans, regional promotion, and community development. We have a deep library of work. That puts us in a fantastic position to build on the story so far and deepen our existing partnerships. We’re proud of what we produce, but we believe our best work is yet to be made. We rely on growth as a team to get us there.

Your Skills and Talents

So, what exactly is a creative producer? In our world, we wear many hats, so this title is just for you, the kind of person who doesn’t fit into small boxes. Sometimes called Producer/Director, a creative producer makes great work happen. You can handle budgeting, logistics, and resourcing, all in service of something greater: creating stand-out work that will truly serve and delight our clients.

Depending on your background, you might also write, shoot, or even record sound and edit; or you may have a mind for content strategy. Your technical skills are an added bonus, but the most important thing is that you know how to produce outstanding work and you can pull the team together to make it happen. You’re also adept at walking our clients through the production process, so they have a great experience.

There are really two things that matter to us for this position: your reel and your attitude.

Can you show us work samples that demonstrate you’re pushing the envelope of what’s possible for creative client projects? Are you equally comfortable creating a 30 second spot or a 5 minute mini-doc story? Do you understand story structure and its ability to transform?

We want to see that you can find potential for poetry in the most industrial setting, that you have a great nose for finding compelling stories in the lives of “ordinary” people, and that you have a proven sense of visual storytelling.

Then, there is attitude. Even though you’re already an accomplished talent, how do you plan to grow and improve? How will you work collaboratively in a team environment where everyone contributes to creative work and where everyone’s ideas are valued? If you’re a lone wolf that holds doggedly to your own ideas at all costs, this probably isn’t the team for you! We embrace candour in the collaborative process, and we all need to be able to take it as well as give it. You have likely travelled a bit, and maybe speak another language (French is a plus). You are empathetic and open-minded, and can relate to diverse folks in our world.

Our team is based in a new, custom studio space a few blocks up from Halifax Harbour in downtown Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
